upgrading pc, need help

Postby Kindeshin on Thu Aug 02, 2007 8:50 am

So I'm planning on upgrading my computer very soon. Those of you that went to MML saw what I was playing on and I haven't upgraded it at all since then. I'm on a very small budget ($400-$500). Not really looking for super high-end top of the line stuff.. just something that will run well. I know most of you are 10000x better with computers than I am so I'd rather get your opinions than pick stuff out all on my own. I'm looking at a new motherboard, processor, video card, and RAM.

Here's what I was looking at..

Mobo: GIGABYTE GA-M61P-S3 Socket AM2 NVIDIA GeForce 6100 ATX AMD
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16813128034

Processor: AMD Athlon 64 X2 5200+ Windsor 2.6GHz 2 x 1MB L2 Cache Socket AM2
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16819103759

Video Card: EVGA 256-P2-N615-TX GeForce 7600GT 256MB 128-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16814130062

RAM: CORSAIR XMS2 2GB (2 x 1GB) 240-Pin DDR2 SDRAM DDR2 800 (PC2 6400)
http://www.newegg.com/product/product.asp?item=N82E16820145590

That totals to about $400 and is a significant upgrade. Just not sure if there's better stuff for around the same price or something.

I would keep an eye out for a better Video Card, because I've seen many sales at Bast Buy or Pricewatch, etc that will out-perform that card hands down for a similar amount of money. Other than that I would say you have at least a decent system started.
