I heard you guys know the good shit out there...

I'm looking to spend 1700 on my PC.. want to be nice people and tell me what's good? :D atm I'm lookin @ e6700 conroe but don't know what vid card, mobo, etc is good, since I know absolutely nothing about comps.

If you could put together like a list on newegg or something, I'd be fuckin happy and love you forever.

how do people know i have a conroe? Especially people not in the guild - i've told like 3 people total about it

in any case is the 1700 for just a PC or PC + monitor?

I got the:
e6700 ($600-$700)
asus p5w dh mobo ($250)
corsair ddr2800 ram (i wound up getting the one with 5-5-5 latency since it's on the QVL) ($120/gig, i got 2)
xfx gforce 7950gx2 ($600)
A decent HD would run you $100-$150 or if you really want to splurge and get a 10k rpm, that's more like $250-$300 for a 150gb
Your case would run anywhere from 40-150, i have the antec sonata 2, its nice and quiet.
I would never use anything except the Logitec mx1000 for my mouse but that's just me.

If you want a new LCD monitor in with that budget as well then you'd have to spend less on other junk and would completely change everything.

And it's nice and pretty but it doesn't even post, probably a problem with the gfx card or the bios version being too old. No matter what you do it'd be nice if you had a spare(old) 775 pin chip and pci-e card to test out when stuff doesn't work for you.

And assuming you have a completely separate budget for your monitor, you have no choice but to get the guy on the right: http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/W ... leDisplays
I'm going to be in the apple store within 30 minutes of my computer actually working carrying that thing home.

Have you run any benchmarks on that Yume? I have a similar setup but on the AMD side, with an x2 4200+ chip. I'd be interested in seeing how much of a gap there is.

ROFL, I heard it through the grapevine (irc  ). But yea, I already ordered mouse/keyboard/monitor, just banging my head against the wall on what parts to get  .

Thanks for the help tho, I'll check that stuff out

I want to pick up the new 24" dell. It's so nice, has RCA/S-Video/Composite inputs so I can plug game systems into it as well as TV sources. God damn sex in an LCD if you ask me!

haha, shows you how far I read into the post. Anyway, sounds like moon's dual Opteron box. Looks cool in theory, but getting the damn thing to work properly is like rocket science.

Yawn, just get an X6800, PH5 Deluxe Asus motherboard, 7900GT, OCZ Platinum Editon DDR 1000. Take the processor and overclock it to 4.2 ghz on air cooling like mine.

Yume,

I got my to post finally. I had problems with it posting and I resolved it by using another video card as my primary card and the 7950 as my secondary card. Plus I flashed my bios 3x. New version, older version, and back to new version. LOL. Bah it didn't take rocket science silly Syrio just a molecular biology undergrad and 1 computer science sweetie >.<
